Glasslight Studio donates vase to Cheeseball auction

Glasslight Studio has donated a gorgeous glass vase to be auctioned off at the Cheese Ball auction on January 18 in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia. The goal of the auction is to help Birchrun Hills Farm make cheese for area restaurants, stores and farmers markets. Winter 2014 Hot Glass Workshops

We have now scheduled glassblowing classes for beginner and advanced students for the next three months. Hands-on experience using full-size equipment and furnaces teaches students this centuries old art form. Small one-day classes are held on Saturday or Sunday. Before each class, we call new students to explain clothing, safety precautions, etc.

Craftsman Joel Bless runs each class, first discussing safety, mechanics and materials, then demonstrating some basic techniques. Students then work one-on-one with experienced instructors to gather, marver, shape and finish their own glass pieces.

Here are the Winter 2014 Hot Glass Workshop dates:

February:   1(Sat),   8(Sat)

March:       2(Sun),  8(Sat),   16(Sun),   22(Sat),   29(Sat)

Class Hours: 9am - 5pm
Class Size: 4-to-8 students

Artist PopUp show at Galer Estate Winery

Glasslight Studio is excited to be a featured artist at the Galer Estate Winery Artist PopUp show this Thursday night (4-9PM on Dec 19). Please join us for a pleasant evening of wine tasting and glass art. We will be exhibiting our wonderful glass gift items all evening. Also on display will be carved wood items from David Cristina and wax encaustic works from Lele Galer.

The Christmas Pickle!

One of the favorite holiday items available at Glasslight Studio is our unique blown glass Christmas Pickle. Here is the story behind the Christmas Pickle and below is a photo of one of our special glass creations.

In an old German custom, 
parents hide the “Christmas Pickle” 
on the decorated tree on Christmas Eve
after the children have gone to bed. 
The first child to find the Pickle 
on Christmas Day gets an extra treat.

 

 

Ornament class at Glasslight Studio

Today while it was cold and snowy outside, Glasslight Studio was hot and fiery inside as a festive holiday ornament class was being held. Below are some photos taken during the class. Joel Bless is shown teaching good technique in the photo below.

Everyone enjoyed the class, particularly since it was so warm inside while the cold snow was blowing about outside. Below is another photo from today's class.
